Steven and Melissa had an awesome backyard wedding at Melissa’s parents’ place in Inverary! I think each time I post a wedding I post more and more photos, but I get attached to them and have a hard time weeding some out. So here are 53 images showing their day, starting with the cool homemade sign pointing the way to their wedding, in case you weren’t sure.
They did a “first look”, which I’ve done a few times and it’s pretty fun. The bride and groom were able to have a quiet moment together (with a photographer clicking away, I guess) before the rest of the day really got into gear. It’s cool to see their reaction when he sees her for the first time and I think it takes some of the pressure off for the ceremony.
It kept raining on and off before the ceremony.
No big whoop — just getting married, catching some fish, you know, the usual.
I love the details — nice and clean and very personal to the bride and groom.
Thanks again for choosing me as your wedding photographer!

I played drums in various bands throughout high school and university, and the other day while I was cleaning out a closet I came across some old demo CDs. Here’s one of my favourite tracks from a band in 2003, I think. I love the mellow feel of the bass line and drum groove. Enjoy while browsing other peoples’ wedding photos!

I hope it’s crazy awesome, not that I want to build my expectations too high or anything.
Did you know you could have a wedding at Upper Canada Village? I’m not originally from south eastern Ontario so I had never even heard of it before I met my wife (she worked there for a few summers) but it’s pretty awesome. I definitely want to go back and check out the non-wedding attractions! Here are some of my favourite photos from Rachel and Rob’s wedding, which started in Morrisburg and ended in Cornwall. We started at Classic Cuts Salon in the Morrisburg Village Plaza. Here’s Rachel looking pretty psyched about her hair.
And a bridesmaid working on her speech in the salon. Busted!
The guys prepared for the day with some golf at Upper Canada Golf Course.
A bridesmaid plays with the puppy while Rachel finishes getting ready.
Coming down the aisle at Upper Canada Village!
This is one of my favourites from the day because of the crazy colours that made their way into the frame. I was shooting through willow leaves and branches.
Here’s the groom looking on as his dad (who was also the best man) says his speech.
This is another one of my favourites.

Check out these sweet minimalist Star Wars posters!

I’m kind of a comic nerd from way back, so when I saw these minimalist superhero posters I’m not ashamed to say I geeked out a bit. You can check out the whole collection here if you want to see more.

Jennifer and James got married at the Gananoque Inn and these are some of my favourite images from the day! I have a soft spot for hydrangeas because that’s what my wife had at our wedding waaaaay back in 2004!
I love quiet moments like this.
This is the view from the St. Lawrence room, looking out the back of the Gananoque Inn. The sea was angry that day, my friends!
Can you tell there were a few tears shed during the groom’s mom’s speech?
Yes, this is a group of vampires accosting the bride. Apparently there’s a group of women who get together every year at the Gan Inn and they always have a theme. Jenn told me last year’s theme was cheesy weddings (ha!) but this year happened to be vampies. I won’t lie — I was a little nervous here. Those women were very into the Twilight thing.
Congrats Jenn and Jim!

Here’s a cool video of the awesome Bobby McFerrin demonstrating the universality of music and how our brains just kind of know what the next notes should sound like.

Ever see those photos that make large environments look like tiny models? Kind of like this:
Or this:
Usually that’s done by a fancy, expensive tilt-shift lens. But now, thanks to the magic of the internets, you can do it online! If you want to just goof around and add a tilt-shift effect to images you’ve already taken you can do it from tiltshiftmaker.com! It’s pretty fun to play around with different photos and settings to see what looks good. Check it out if you have some time to kill. And if you want to see more examples of what you can do with tilt-shift imagery, check out these pretty amazing videos by Keith Loutit.
